An Interview With Tracy Goodwin
Tell me a little
about yourself...
I am a Historical Romance Author. My bestselling
debut novel, Dance With Deception, is now
available in both print and eBook format. Born and
raised in New York, I relocated to Houston about five
years ago with my husband, Greg. We’re the proud
parents of three feline sons and will celebrate out
thirteenth wedding anniversary this year.
Describe your writing routine.
I usually begin by brewing a pot of tea or preparing
a cup of coffee for myself. I then sit down in my
office with the French doors closed, and stare at my
blank computer screen. I turn music on through iTunes
and fight the urge to check email (knowing that I will
use that as a distraction), instead continuing to study
that blank page. I then fight the urge to change the
track I’m playing, once again staring at my blank page.
Right about now, I usually remember something that Nora
Roberts said at an RWA National conference … something
along the lines of “You can’t edit a blank page.” Smart
woman. So then I write. It isn’t always fabulous
(although occasionally I may think it is and later
wonder what was I thinking) but it is a start.
Hopefully, the end result is that I feel good about what
I’ve written or, at the very least, take comfort in the
fact that I actually have something to edit.
If you could be one of your characters – Who would
you be? And why?
My first thought is “there are so many of them!” The
fact that I would like to live in my characters’ world
is one reason I love writing so much. That fact makes
my journey with them so enjoyable and the end result so
satisfying for me. With that said, I do have a stronger
bond with one of my heroines … Victoria Montgomery. Not
only is she my hero’s sibling in Dance With
Deception, but she is the heroine in my third
novel, The Skilled Seduction.
Victoria saw me through the heartache of two
miscarriages last year and many of the emotions she
experienced throughout the plot were ones that I had
personally been feeling. And why, in light of all that,
would I want to spend one day in her life? Because she
gets a happy ending with all of her wishes fulfilled.
What could be better than that?
What is the most difficult part of writing?
For me, the most difficult part of writing is the
uncertainty. Will my work ever be published? Will anyone
like what I’ve written? Will my readers care about my
characters? Ugh! The self-doubt can be daunting! How do
I conquer it? I remind myself that I’m not the only
Author who feels this way and that propels me forward.
And there are so many talented Romance Authors to turn
to for inspiration!
How can readers reach
